With headshots your expression is the star of the show, so it’s best to keep your make up natural.
If you are planning any dental care, skin treatments, collagen treatments, hair removal, etc., please make sure you allow enough time for any swelling or irritation to be relieved. I would recommend about 2 weeks for this.
Moisturizing is great. I would also recommend drinking plenty of water coming up to photo session, it helps to keep your skin hydrated.
Here are some quick tips on makeup:
- Avoid anything too heavy, bright or dark on the eyes, we want everyone to be looking at your face, not the style of make up! Absolutely no contouring, our lights take care of that naturally!
- Foundation can be used, but keep it very light. Too much can lead to cracks on the face and forehead, no one wants that! I’ve also seen color differences, where the foundation can make your ears and neck look like a different skin color. I have software that can remove any temporal skin issues that might often be concealed with makeup.
- Stick to lip gloss only, shiny lips look better in front of bright lights. With lipstick, colors that are overly bright can be a distraction.
- Lashes are up to you, but know that the bigger the lashes, the higher the chance that they could distract from your expression.
Men if you really want to have different looks grow some stubble and bring a shaving kit with you.
As always, if you have a look, brand, or style, that over-rides any recommendations here. The most important part of a headshot is that you present yourself in an intentional way.
